Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist Men's Tennis beat Southeastern Oklahoma State by a score of 5-4 in the Central Regional Championship and advance to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen next week in Surprise, Arizona.
In doubles, Southeastern Oklahoma State grabbed their first point at court #1 with an 8-6 victory. The Savage Storm quickly added their second point by winning on court #2 8-5. Sherif Abohabaga and David Szeri grabbed a crucial point for the Bearcats on court #3 by winning their match in a tiebreaker.
In singles, Raul Caballero tied up the score 2-2 after a strong performance on court #2 by beating his opponent in two straight sets. Gyrogy Agoston gave the lead to the Bearcats by winning his match also in two straight sets. Southeastern managed to get their third point after winning in the third set on court #1. The Savage Storm won another match on court #6, making them one point away from winning the overall match. The Bearcats came back to tie the total score at 4-4 after Ferenc Agoston's victory in two straight sets on court #4. The decisive point came from SBU's senior Torben Semrau on court #5 by beating his opponent 7-5, 7-5. The Bearcats won this match by a final score of 5-4.
Southwest Baptist Men's Tennis will continue their postseason journey in the Sweet Sixteen next week for the second year in a row. The Bearcats will find out their matchup on Thursday, May 3rd.
