Lincoln, Neb. - Southwest Baptist claimed the 2018 MIAA Men's Tennis Championship title by beating Washburn in the finals 5-1.
In doubles, the Bearcats swept all three doubles and took the lead 3-0. Sherif Abohabaga/David Szeri finished first on court #3 with a score of 8-5, followed by Raul Caballero/Torben Semrau with a score of 8-4, and finally Gyorge Agoston/Ferenc Agoston with a score of 9-7.
In singles, Abohabaga added another point to SBU by winning on court #1 in two straight sets and made SBU one point away from the victory. The Ichabods won their only point on court #6 in two straight sets. Semrau clinched his match on court #5 by beating his opponent also in two straight sets and gave the Bearcats the MIAA Championship title.
SBU Men's Tennis comes back home with two trophies this season (Regular Season Champions and MIAA Conference Champions). The last time the Bearcats won the MIAA Championship was back in 2008.
Southwest Baptist Men's Tennis will be back in action for the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bearcats will find out their matchup on Tuesday, April 24th.
