SBU Softball Drops Doubleheader to Northwest Missouri State

Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist University played a double-header against Northwest Missouri State University. SBU fell 5-0 in game one and lost game two 9-2. Their record goes to 12-21 (2-8 MIAA) on the season.

Game 1
Claire Miller started with a strong three up-three down first inning. SBU followed their strong defensive inning with a couple hits from Stormy Greathouse and Miranda Aguilar, but they were stranded on base. After a quick second inning, Northwest Missouri State scored two due to a homerun in the third.
 
Both teams played well defensively, allowing no runs until a three-run homerun from Northwest Missouri State in the top of the seventh inning. SBU was unable to plate any runs in the bottom of the seventh, leaving a final score of 5-0 in favor of Northwest Missouri State.
 
 
Game 2
Northwest Missouri State jumped to an early 4-0 lead, scoring all four runs from two homeruns. The SBU bats started hot in the bottom of the first. Jaidyn Mawhinney hit a leadoff single through the left side and Stormy Greathouse followed with a hit up the middle. Megan Schellert hit a ground ball that advanced the two runners, but SBU was unable to drive in the runs.
 
Southwest Baptist held their opponent to scoreless innings in the second, third, and fourth inning. With two outs in the fifth, NWMSU drove in two runs with a double to right-center and singled home another to push their lead to 7-0. After a scoreless sixth inning, Northwest Missouri State put up another two runs, taking a 9-0 lead. SBU battled back in their half of the seventh. Kaley Hansen led off with a single down the left field line and Nicole Horstman reached on a muffed throw. An RBI single from Payton Wildeman got SBU on the board and Jaidyn Mawhinney picked up an RBI with a two out walk, making the score 9-2. Southwest Baptist could not plate any more runs, making the final score 9-2 in favor of Northwest Missouri State University.
 
Kaylee Schmidli pitched the first inning, giving up four earned runs. Hunter Middleton pitched 3.2 innings, allowing three earned runs. Alexis Dock finished the game, allowing two runs, both unearned. Hits were collected from Mawhinney, Greathouse, Hansen, Wildeman, and Petry.
 
Southwest Baptist University will play Missouri Western in Bolivar, MO on Saturday, March 31 at 10AM.
