3/28/2018 6:35:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Bolivar, Mo. – In a MIAA Conference home doubleheader, the Southwest Baptist University Softball dropped both to Missouri Southern by 4-1 and 8-2 scores. The two losses drop SBU's record to 12-19 (2-6 MIAA) and Missouri Southern improves to 16-20 (3-7 MIAA).

Game 1 Recap
The Lions were the first to strike with a run in the top of the 1st off a sacrifice fly. The Bearcats immediately tied the game up in the bottom of the 1st with a sacrifice fly of their own off the bat of Megan Schellert.

Missouri Southern reclaimed the lead in the top of the 2nd by scoring a run via an SBU error. The Lions maintained their one run lead until the top of the 5th. In the 5th, the Lions added two runs to extend their advantage to the final margin of 4-1. The Bearcats threatened in the bottom of the 6th by putting runners on 1st and 2nd with back-to-back singles. However, a popup to end the inning extinguished the scoring chance for SBU.

Claire Miller pitched the whole game but still took the loss (9-9). Miller allowed only one earned run on 3 hits, 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts. At the plate, designated player Miranda Aguiliar put together a 2 for 3 performance while Jaidyn Mawhinney had a hit, run, and walk.

Game 2 Recap
In game two of the doubleheader, the Lions jumped in front first once again with a three run top of the 2nd off starting pitcher Kaylee Schmidli. In the 3rd, Missouri Southern padded their lead with two unearned runs via an SBU error, which made it a 5-0 Lion advantage.

The Bearcats closed the gap in the bottom of the 3rd with an RBI double from Schellert that sent home Mawhinney. This made the score 5-1, but the Lions quickly added another run in the top of the 4th to stretch their lead to 6-1.

In the bottom of the 4th, Payton Wildeman started the inning with a double down the left field line. Jayden Gonzales then followed with a walk. After a flyout, Kori Hillenburg walked to load the bases for the Bearcats. Following a fielder's choice, senior shortstop Stormy Greathouse drew an RBI walk to make the score 6-2. The Lions were able to get out of the jam from there by getting Schellert to pop up on the infield.

Missouri Southern tacked on a single run in the 6th and 7th, which made the final score 8-2 Lions. Kaylee Schmidli (0-2) was saddled with the loss after throwing 3 innings and allowing 4 earned runs on 8 hits and 3 walks. Wildeman had a perfect day in the box, going 3 for 3 with one double and two singles.

SBU will be home on Friday, March 30th for a doubleheader against Northwest Missouri State starting at 2:00 PM.
