Topeka, Kan. - In a nail-biter, the Southwest Baptist Women's Tennis team stretched their winning streak to five by defeating Washburn 5-4 on Sunday afternoon.
In doubles, the Ichabods started strong and had the overall better performance, capturing wins on doubles #1 and #2. The Bearcats claimed a doubles point with an 8-6 victory in doubles #3.Â
In singles, SBU's #1 singles player, Jill Van den Dungen, tied the overall score at 2-2 with an 6-3, 7-6 win. Klara Vickov gave the Bearcats the advantage after beating her opponent in two straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. At singles #4, Constanca Crespo won her match 6-2, 6-2 to put SBU ahead 4-2 and a point away from winning the match. The Ichabods though closed the gap with a win on singles #3. Junior Sarah Brown clinched the match for SBU with a 6-4 win in the third and final set of her match. Washburn claimed the last point at singles #6 but SBU still came away with the 5-4 win.
The Bearcats will play again at home on Wednesday against Missouri Western at 2:00 PM.Â
