Topeka, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist Men's Tennis team came away with a 6-3 match victory over Washburn on Sunday to improve their record on the season to 13-2 (3-0 MIAA).
In doubles #1, Gyorgy Agoston and Ferenc Agoston dropped the match as Washburn broke their serve to win 7-5. For doubles #2, Sherif Abohabaga and Torben Semrau played together for the first time this season and had a stellar performance. The combo won 8-3 to tie the overall score at 1-1. At doubles #3, Raul Caballero and Carlos Corser fell short and lost 8-3 to make the score 2-1 Washburn after the conclusion of doubles.
Despite being down after doubles, the Bearcats came out very strong and energized in singles. SBU captured wins in five of the six singles matches in dominant fashion. Abohabaga, Caballero, Ferenc Agoston, Gyorgy Agoston, and Semrau all won their matches in two straight sets, which propelled the Bearcats to the 6-3 win.Â
SBU will return to the court at home on Friday against Northwest Missouri State, hoping to stay undefeated in the MIAA.
