Kearney, Ne. - SBU Softball managed to beat Nebraska-Kearney the first game in the doubleheader 4-2 but lost in the second game 14-11. SBU's record now stands at 12-15 (2-2 MIAA), and Nebraska-Kearney is 9-18.
Game 1 Recap
The Bearcats couldn't score in the first inning but the Lopers scored two runs and made the score 2-0 in their favor to finish the first inning. Kelcee Welch and Morgan McMullin contributed to help tie the score in the second. The Bearcats then took the lead in the top of the fourth. Lauren Strobel tripled to right field and McMullin scored another run. In the seventh and last inning, Megan Schellert singled to the right field and Kaley Hansen scored the fourth run for SBU to end the score to the game 4-2 in favor of SBU.
Game 2 Recap
Southwest Baptist had a great start scoring 2 runs in the top of the first. The Lopers came back right away and scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first to get the lead. The next inning, Stormy Greathouse reached on a fielder's choice; Mawhinney advanced to third and Strobel scored. Another two runs were scored by Mawhinney and Greathouse to make the score 5-3 SBU. Starting the bottom of the fourth with a score of 7-6 SBU, Nebraska-Kearney had their best inning by scoring 8 runs to make the score 14-7 to their favor. In the top of the fifth, the Bearcats scored another four runs but it wasn't enough to come back. The Lopers won Game 2 with a score of 14-11.
SBU Softball will head to play against Fort Hays Saturday, March 14 at 1PM and 3PM.
