SBU Baseball Falls in First Game at Emporia State

Emporia, Ks. - The Bearcats were on the road for their first conference games of the season. The Bearcats battled hard but lost to the Hornets 12-6, the Bearcats record is now 6-9 (1-3 MIAA).

The Bearcats found themselves down early in the first three innings as the Hornets scored a total of 10 runs, while the Bearcats were held scoreless till the fifth. 

In the fifth inning Clint Jack reached on an error, which scored Tyler Mathys. Continuing in the fifth Don Roethler doubled which allowed Hunter Hisky to score from second, the next batter Carl Schwettman doubled down the left field line and that allowed both Jack and Roethler to score as well, in total the Bearcats scored four runs but still trailed Emporia State by six runs.

The Bearcats kept the Hornets scoreless till the seventh and eighth inning where the Hornets added one run in each of those innings. 

In the ninth the Bearcats added two runs on one hit from Luke Winfrey with one out remaining in the game, which scored Jack and Hisky. But that was all the scoring the Bearcats had in the final inning as Emporia State struck out the next batter and took game one 12-6.

The Bearcats will play game two tomorrow, and game time is scheduled for 1 P.M.
