Box Score Edmond, Ok. - In the final game of the three game series with Central Oklahoma, Southwest Baptist got a dominant pitching performance from both starting pitcher Dalton Morrow and reliever Mitch Stemerdink. The two combined to give up just three hits and no runs and propel SBU to a 4-0 win. Morrow claimed his 4th win of the season and improved his record to a perfect 4-0.
After two scoreless innings to start, SBU was able to crack the scoring column in the top of the 3rd. Carl Schwettmann singled through the left side to bring home Noah Tucker for the run that proved to be the difference. SBU extended their lead in the top of 4th. Jackson Mueller led off with a double and after a sacrifice bunt, Winfrey singled up the middle on a two strike pitch to give SBU the 2-0 lead.Â
After Morrow retired the Bronchos in order in the bottom of the 5th, SBU added two more runs to the scoreboard in the top of the 6th. The first two batters reached with back-to-back walks, and then a batter later Hunter Hisky knocked a 2 RBI single up the middle to bring the SBU advantage to 4-0. Morrow proceeded to cap with his day in the bottom of the 6th and 7th by getting five of his last six outs via the strikeout. Stemerdink closed the game with a scoreless 8th and 9th to help SBU salvage their series with UCO.
In 7 shutout innings, Morrow collected 11 strikeouts, walked only 2, and allowed just 3 hits. In the final 2 innings, Stemerdink faced 7 batters allowing the only base runner to reach via a walk. The Bearcat lineup had strong games from Jack and Mathys, who both collected 2 hits on the day. Hisky was 1 for 4 on the day with 2 RBI, and Winfrey had a hit, RBI, and run scored for SBU.Â
The Bearcats return home now for a seven game home stand, starting with Truman State on Tuesday, March 13th at 2:00 PM. Â
