Box Score Edmond, Ok. - The Southwest Baptist Baseball got out to an early 7-0 lead but were unable to hold on as Central Oklahoma claimed a 17-7 win in game two of the three game series. The loss drops SBU's record to 6-13 (1-7 MIAA) and UCO goes to 13-7 (7-1 MIAA).
The Bearcats came out firing in the first, putting up six runs before the Bronchos even had a chance to bat. Clint Jack got it rolling with a sacrifice fly to give SBU the early 1-0 lead. Don Roethler followed with an RBI single. After a fielder's choice, Trevor Lofstrom drove an RBI double down the left field line on the first pitch, scoring Carl Schwettmann. The Bearcats added two more runs off a UCO error to stretch their lead to 5-0. Noah Tucker capped SBU's huge inning with an RBI double to left center. After Drew Wagner faced the minimum in the top of the 1st, Hunter Hisky extended the SBU advantage to 7-0 with a solo home run to right.Â
Hisky's home run would be the last of the scoring for SBU as the Bearcats did not have an answer for UCO's offense the rest of the game. UCO scored in every remaining innings with three runs in the 2nd, two runs in the 3rd, two runs in the 4th, a run in the 5th, two runs in the 6th, and seven runs in the 7th. UCO's single run in the 5th off of Logan Sorrell proved to be the difference.Â
For the Bearcats at the plate, Roethler went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Luke Winfrey had 2 RBIs on a 1 for 3 day, and Hisky was 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. On the mound, Wagner threw 3.2 innings, giving up 7 runs, 5 earned runs, 7 hits, 4 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Sorrell took the loss (0-3) out of relief.  Â
The Bearcats and Bronchos wrap up their conference series tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM.Â
