Arkadelphia, Ark. - The Southwest Baptist University Softball team wrapped up their weekend at the Ronnie Hawkins Invitational with a doubleheader against Rogers State and Christian Brothers University. The Bearcats split the two games with a 3-0 loss to Rogers State and an 8-6 win over Christian Brothers. SBU's record now stands at 1-3 on the young season.

Game 1 Recap
Claire Miller started the game hot by striking out the side against Rogers State. In the bottom of the 1st, Lauren Strobel and Jaidyn Mawhinney started the inning with a walk and a single, which put runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out. Unfortunately, the next three SBU batters fouled out, ending their scoring chance.

In part to dominant pitching on both teams, both teams had little to no scoring chances until the top of the 6th. The top of the 6th Rogers State got the only run they needed all game when Miller walked in a run. Rogers State would go on to add two more in the top of the 7th on two separate RBI singles. The Bearcats went quietly in the bottom of the 7th, which handed them a 3-0 defeat.

Despite taking the loss, Miller pitched a complete game. She struck out 12 batters, walked 6, and allowed 3 earned runs on 8 hits. Mawhinney, Megan Schellert, and Kaley Hansen accounted for the Bearcats only 3 hits as they went 3 for 25 and only had 5 total runners reach safely in the game.

Game 2 Recap
After being held scoreless in their first three games of the season, the SBU offense came to life against Christian Brothers. In the top of the 3rd, Schellert got SBU on the board when she drove in Nicole Horstman on an RBI single. Payton Wildeman followed with an RBI fielder's choice that gave SBU a 2-0 lead. Christian Brothers responded with four unanswered runs off Alexis Dock and Hunter Middleton to give them a 4-2 lead at the end of the 4th.

After a scoreless 5th inning, the SBU offense busted out for 5 runs in the 6th that handed them now a 7-4 lead. Horstman, Mawhinney, and Schellert all had RBI's in the inning for SBU. Christian Brothers drew within one run in the bottom half of the inning by scoring an earned and unearned run off of Middleton. However, Stormy Greathouse blasted a a solo home run in the top of the 7th to provide SBU with some insurance and an 8-6 lead. After Christian Brothers put two runners on with one out, Middleton slammed the door shut by getting the next batters to strike out and ground out to hand SBU the 8-6 win and first win of the season.

Alexis Dock was credited with the win for SBU while Middleton got the save for pitching the last 4 1/3 innings out of relief. Schellert went 3 for 4 at the dish with 2 RBI and Greathouse was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.

Southwest Baptist will next be in action on February 16th when travel to Bentonville to take on Northeastern State in a non-conference matchup.
