Arkadelphia, Ark. - The Southwest Baptist Softball team opened their season Saturday with two games in the Ronnie Hawkins Invitational against #10 Southern Arkansas and Henderson State. The offense was quiet all day as SBU was held scoreless in both games. They lost a 3-0 game to #10 Southern Arkansas and an 8-0 game to Henderson State.
Game 1 Recap
In the season opener against Southern Arkansas, SBU had a scoring chance in the top of the 1st by putting two runners on with one out. However, SBU could not capitalize as the next two batters struck out. The teams were knotted at 0-0 until the bottom of the 4th. The bottom of the 4th, Southern Arkansas plated two runs against SBU's ace Claire Miller. The Muleriders added another run in the bottom of the 5th on a solo home run. Jaidyn Mawhinney put herself in scoring position in the top of the 6th but nothing came to fruition. In the 3-0 defeat, Miller only gave up two earned runs and struck out 10 Muleriders. SBU did outhit SAU in the game, 5 to 4.Â

Game 2 Recap
Southwest Baptist's second game of the day against Henderson State was another game where the Bearcats had a challenging time mustering anything at the plate. The Reddies jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the 2nd off starter Alexis Dock. The Reddies added four more runs off Dock in the 3rd, which chased her from the game. Hunter Middleton replaced her and pitched well in relief for the Bearcats. Middleton allowed only one hit, zero earned runs, and recorded two strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. SBU managed only three hits though in the loss to Henderson State.
Southwest Baptist concludes their trip in Arkadelphia, Arkansas Sunday morning when they face Rogers State at 9 AM and Christian Brothers University at 11 AM. Â
