Box Score
Topeka, Ks. - In the opening round of the MIAA Tournament, the Washburn Ichabods took down the Southwest Baptist Women's Basketball Team by a final score of 80-70. With the win, Washburn moves on to the quarterfinal round against Pitt State while the loss ends the Bearcats season.

Caylee Richardson lead SBU in scoring with 20 points on 58.3% (7-12) shooting and 83.3% (5-6) at the line. She also gathered in a team high 8 rebounds. In her final game in a SBU uniform, Megan Rosenbohm scored 19 points including 3 treys and a perfect 4 for 4 at the stripe. Rosenbohm, a First Team All-MIAA honoree, chipped in 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Laura Vierkant came off the bench to score 12 points on 57.1% (4-7) from the field and 50% (2-4) from three.

In the game, Southwest Baptist shot 38.7% (24-62) from the floor, 27.6% (8-29) from three, and 87.5% (14-16) from the line. The Bearcats forced 13 Ichabod turnovers and were only outrebounded by Washburn, 43 to 40. The Ichabods did double up SBU on points in the paint, 44 to 22.

To start the contest, SBU grabbed a quick 12-7 advantage at the 6:55 mark on a Morgan Henderson layup. The Bearcats were in front most of the first quarter until the 1:49 point when Washburn took a 19-17 lead. A layup from Richardson to end the quarter made the SBU deficit just four at 23-19. After the Ichabods extended their lead to 31-19 shortly into the second quarter, the Bearcats responded in a big way. They went on a 21-6 run the rest of the quarter to take a 40-37 advantage into the locker room. The run was capped by a Sydney Bandy three with 14 seconds left.

After a Richardson jumper to begin the third quarter stretched the Bearcat margin to 42-37, Washburn then went on 16-2 spurt that put them in front 53-44. Rosenbohm got the Ichabod lead down to five at the 3:50 mark but that was the closest SBU would get for the remainder of the game. Washburn took a 10 point lead at 63-53 into the fourth quarter and then increased their lead as high as 19 points in the fourth. The final four minutes the Bearcats outscored Washburn 13-4 but it was not enough before the Ichabods claimed the 80-70 win.

Southwest Baptist finishes their season at 15-14. It is the third straight winning season for Coach Keizer and the Bearcats.
