Box Score
Bolivar, Mo. - Sophomore starting pitcher Dalton Morrow continued his superb start to the season with 8 strong innings to lead the Southwest Baptist University Baseball Team to a 6-5 win over MIAA opponent, Nebraska Kearney, Monday afternoon. Morrow earned his 3rd win of the year on the mound to move his record to 3-0 while Alex Achtermann took the loss to go to 0-1. SBU improved their overall record to 6-8 (1-2 MIAA) and UNK dropped to 5-8 (1-2 MIAA).

It took one at bat for SBU in the bottom of the 1st to take the lead as Tyler Mathys pounded a line drive home run over the left field fence to hand SBU an early 1-0 lead. The two teams remained scoreless until the 3rd inning. In the top half of the 3rd inning, the Lopers tied the game up at 1 with an RBI single. The Bearcats struck back in the bottom of the 3rd though. After Mathys tripled and Andrew Meier walked and stole second, Clint Jack laced a single to center field to drive home Mathys and Meier and put SBU on top 3-1.

As Morrow continued to cruise on the mound, the Bearcats padded their lead with two runs in the bottom of the 6th. After SBU loaded the bases, Patrick Latham walked to force home a run and then Don Roethler pounded an RBI single to bring home and extend the margin to 5-1 Bearcats. In the 7th and 8th, Morrow retired the Lopers in order, including striking out the side in the top of the 8th. In the bottom of the 8th, the Bearcats got what would prove to be a pivotal run as Jack delivered another RBI single to drive in Meier once again.

In the top of the 9th, Morrow allowed the first two Loper batters to reach base, which chased him from the game. Logan Sorrell relieved Morrow and allowed an RBI single and three run homer to make the score 6-5 Bearcats. Two of the four runs were charged to Morrow while two were Sorrell's responsibility. Drew Wagner came in for Sorrell and slammed the door shut. With the tying run on third and go ahead run on second with one out, Wagner retired the final two Lopers by striking one out and getting one to fly out to center. By doing so, Wagner earned his first save of the season.

Morrow's final line on the mound was 8 innings pitched, 7 hits allowed, 3 earned runs, 3 walks, and 9 strikeouts. At the plate, Jack was 3 for 5 with 3 RBI on the day. Meier went 3 for 4 with a triple and 3 runs scored, and Mathys was 2 for 5 with a home run, triple, 2 runs scored, and an RBI.

Southwest Baptist will next begin a road series against Emporia State on Friday, March 2nd. First pitch of game one of the three game series is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
