Kearney, Ne. - The Bearcats couldn't get it done in Kearney Friday night, falling to UNK 62-80. SBU men finish the regular season 12-16 (6-13 MIAA). Nebraska-Kearney finishes their regular season 15-13 (11-8 MIAA).
Chris Rossow and Logan Hovey carried the Bearcats in points with 19 and 18 respectively. Leading SBU in assists with four was Rossow as well. Karim Mouliom snagged 8 rebounds in the loss. The Bearcats were 41.8% (23-55) from the field and 31.6% (6-19) from three point range.
Southwest Baptist University started off strong, leading 7-5 with 16:56 left in the first half. The Lopers took the lead shortly after that and would hold on to it the rest of the game. UNK took their lead up to 16 with 5:49 remaining in the first half. Hovey made a three pointer with 53 seconds left in the half to cut the Kearney lead down to 39-32. The Lopers scored four points in free throws before the half ended to give them a 43-32 lead going into halftime.
SBU hung with UNK, getting the Loper lead down to 59-51 with 9:29 remaining, but Kearney would keep a double digit lead the rest of the game and finish with a final score of 62-80 in favor of the Lopers. Southwest Baptist struggled from the free throw line in the second half shooting just 3-7, while Nebraska-Kearney was nearly perfect from the line hitting 10-11 in the second half, and 17-18 overall.
The MIAA will announce the official seeding for the postseason tournament on Saturday, February 24th.
