Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Emporia, Ks. - The Southwest Baptist Softball Team was in action Sunday for their final two games of the weekend in Emporia. The Bearcats faced off against the Prairie Stars of Illinois Springfield and the Saints of Maryville University but ended up dropping both games. They lost to Illinois Springfield by a 16-5 final and to Maryville by a 9-1 final. The Bearcats have now lost four in a row and their record drops to 1-7 (0-0 MIAA) on the young season. The SBU Softball Team will be in action once again next Friday when they travel to St. Cloud, MInnesota for a six game tournament across three days.

Game 1 Recap
In the first game of the day, the Bearcats got on the board first as Lauren Strobel knocked a two run homer over the fence in left center that drove in Kaley Hansen. Unfortunately, that was all that went right for the Bearcats in this game. In the bottom of the 1st, the Prairie Stars scored 3 unearned runs off starting pitcher Hunter Middleton to take a decisive 3-2 lead. The Prairie Stars poured it on in the bottom of the 2nd as they scored 8 runs to go up 11-2. Illinois Springfield added 4 more runs in the 3rd to make the score 15-2.

SBU plated two runs in the top of the 4th on Jaidyn Mawhinney and Strobel RBI singles. They scored an unearned run in the 5th as well. However, these runs were not enough for the Bearcats as the game was called after 5 innings due to the Prairie Stars winning by more than 10 runs.

Mawhinney and Strobel were the lone bright spots for SBU in this game. Mawhinney was 3 for 3 with a walk, run scored, and RBI. Strobel collected 3 RBIs on a 2 for 2 day that included a walk and run scored too. Middleton took the loss on the mound and her record falls to 1-1 on the season.

Game 2 Recap
SBU struck first as well in their second game of the day due to a Payton Wildeman double that drove in Stormy Greathouse in the bottom of the 2nd. Similar to the first game though against Illinois Springfield, this was all the Bearcats could muster before Maryville exploded for a bunch of runs.

Maryville scored three in the top of the 3rd to take the 3-1 lead. They then tacked on four runs in the 4th inning and two runs in the 6th inning to ultimately increase their lead to 9-1. SBU placed runners in scoring position in the 4th, 5th, and 6th but was unable to push those runners across and the game ended with a 9-1 final after six innings.

Claire Miller pitched a complete game on the mound for SBU in which she struck out 9 batters, walked 5, and allowed 9 earned runs on 7 hits. Strobel was 2 for 3 in the contest and Wildeman was 2 for 3 as well with the lone RBI.
