In his 7th year as Emporia State's head coach is Jory Collins, who has continued the excellence of Emporia State basketball. Collins has a career record of 197-55 and a 115-40 in MIAA. In Collins seven years he has lead the Lady Hornets to six NCAA Regional Tournament Championship games.

BEARCATS LAST OUTING
(2/10/18) Pittsburg, Ks. - Megan Rosenbohm lit up the scoreboard on Saturday afternoon, going for a season high and game high 31 points against Pittsburg State on Saturday afternoon. However, her valiant effort was not enough as the Gorillas knocked off the Bearcats in a high scoring affair, 90-80. The loss snaps SBU's three game winning streak and drops their record to 15-9 (7-8 MIAA). Meanwhile, Pitt State moves to 19-5 (11-3 MIAA) on the season.
Rosenbohm scored her 31 points on 11 for 19 (57.9%) shooting including a perfect 8 for 8 at the free throw line. She also added 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block on the afternoon. Caylee Richardson chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds on 46.2% (6-13) from the field. Ray'Shionne Smith was the only the other Bearcat to reach double digits as she scored 13 points, all of which came in the 1st quarter.
For the game, SBU shot 40.5% (30-74) from the floor, 26.3% (5-19) from downtown, and 93.8% (15-16) from the charity stripe. The Bearcats only turned it over 12 times but the Gorillas were efficient as they generated 19 points off of those 12 Bearcat giveaways. The rebounding battle went SBU's way with the Bearcats collecting 41 to the Gorillas 33. Finally, Pitt State had the slight edge in points in the paint, 38 to 32.
The game got off to a roaring start as both teams combined for 60 points in the first quarter alone. SBU took a quick 10-4 lead three and a half minutes in on one of Smith's 3 three pointers in the quarter. Pitt State came back to take the lead but a 10-3 run from the Bearcats put them back on top 20-14. SBU would hold the lead most of the quarter until Mikaela Burgess knocked down a triple with 1:46 left in the quarter to hand the Gorillas a 26-23 advantage. At the end of the quarter, Pitt State held a 31-29 lead.
In the second quarter, the Gorillas stretched their margin to nine points, 42-33, with 4:57 to go. Over the next minute and a half, the Bearcats went on a 8-1 spurt to close the deficit to 43-41. The Gorillas responded with a 7-0 run to make it 50-41, but a three from Bailey Rezabek made the halftime score 50-44 Gorillas.
Four minutes into the third quarter, Pitt State had expanded their advantage to 64-50. The Bearcats did not let deficit deter them as they responded with a 12-2 run to trim the Gorilla lead down to 66-62. Rosenbohm capped the run with a jumper at the 2:26 mark. By the end of the third, Pitt State held a 69-62 lead.
To start the fourth, Burgess nailed back-to-back threes to give Pitt State a double digit advantage, 75-62 once again. Pitt State did not relinquish that double figure lead the rest of the way as they went home with the 90-80 win.
