Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU Women's Basketball team hosted Missouri Baptist University Saturday afternoon, defeating the Spartans 83-65. The win improves their record to 4-7 (0-2 MIAA).
 
The visitors scored first, but 
Caylee Richardson answered quickly with a layup. A free throw from 
Morgan Henderson gave SBU their first lead of the game a little over 2 minutes into the game. With 1:20 remaining in the first quarter, MBU took a 9 point lead, 19-10. Layups from 
Caylee Richardson and 
Bailey Rezabek cut the lead to 4, but the Spartans hit a 3 with 5 seconds remaining to take a 22-14 lead into the second quarter.
 
Early into the second, Rezabek nailed a 3 to bring SBU within 5. Richardson also made two free throws to dig at the Spartan lead. On the next Bearcat possession, Richardson completed an and-one to tie things up at 24 each. The teams went back and forth, SBU had a 7 point lead with 1:05 remaining until halftime, but MBU again hit a 3 with 4 seconds left. The Bearcats would lead at the half, 44-40.
 
SBU came out of halftime quick, scoring on a 
Laura Vierkant layup just 16 seconds into the half. Free throws by 
RayShee Smith, and layups from Richardson and Vierkant pushed the lead to 10. After MBU responded with a bucket, 
Laura Vierkant nailed a 3 to build the SBU lead again. With 3:01 remaining in the third, 
Madison Strong hit three's on back to back offensive possessions. With just 13 seconds left before the fourth quarter, 
Caylee Richardson made a layup to give the Bearcats a 65-52 lead.
 
Beginning the fourth just how they ended the third, SBU scored on a 
Caylee Richardson layup. With 6:48 left in the game, SBU took their largest lead of the afternoon, 20, thanks to 
Bailey Rezabek free throws. Both teams took turns scoring buckets on their possessions, but the Bearcats would finish with an 18 point lead, a score of 83-65.
 
Caylee Richardson recorded a double-double, scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds in the win.  
Bailey Rezabek and 
Laura Vierkant were the other Bearcats in double digit points, finishing with 16 and 14 respectively. Rezabek also recorded a game-high 4 steals.
 
SBU will play Nebraksa Kearney in an MIAA Conference matchup on Thursday, January 3
rd at 5:30 PM.
