Bolivar, Mo. – The Men's Basketball team hosted the William Woods Owls Monday morning, defeating the Owls by a score of 71-55. The win improves SBU's record to 6-4 (1-1 MIAA) on the season.
The visitors hit a three to begin the game, but wouldn't score their next point for almost 5 minutes. The first SBU points came from a good three point shot from
Karim Mouliom. The Bearcats took the lead with 16:48 remaining in the half thanks to a
Damian Prgomet layup. SBU built their lead to 9 with 14:24 left after
Quinn Nelson hit a three. With 11:21 to go in the half, SBU took their largest lead of the half at 13, following two good free throws from
Chris Rossow. William Woods snuck back into the game, trimming the Bearcat lead down to just 3 with a little over two minutes before halftime. However, a jumper from
Tyler Williams and a layup from
Chris Rossow helped extend SBU's lead to 31-24 at the half.
The Bearcats came out hot in the second half, quickly pushing their lead to 15. The Owls scored a little over a minute into the second half, but wouldn't score for a full three minutes. Midway through the second half, SBU went on a 14-2 run, giving them a 19 point lead with 7:20 left on the clock. That run consisted of a
Damian Prgomet dunk and three point plays from
Quinn Nelson and
Connor Fuller. The Bearcats kept their lead in double digits the remainder of the game, finishing with a 16 point differential and a final score of 71-55.
Damian Prgomet had a double-double, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and also collecting 4 blocks in the win.
Quinn Nelson and
Godfrey Rolle were the other Bearcats in double digits. SBU shot 51.5% from the field and 84.6% from the free throw line.
The Bearcats will play again on Saturday, December 29
th when they take on Sterling College at 3:30 in Bolivar.
