Bolivar, Mo. - Maris Colton tallied 18 of his 24 points in the second half as the Bearcats tally their first win of the season 80-71.
In a very physical first half, both teams totaled 28 fouls, which added up to 37 free-throws taken in the first half. The Bearcats capitalized on 20 of their 23 free-throws in the first half. And with the Bearcats success of hitting free-throws especially late in the first half, the Bearcats trailed Minot State by 4 at halftime 36-40.
Early in the second half, Minot State pushed their lead up to 10 points, but with 18:19 remaining SBU would then go on a 15-4 run it was during this run that a three-pointer by Andy Campbell gave SBU a 51-50 lead with 13:43 left in the game.
SBU and Minot State would trade baskets until Maris Colton hit one of his two three-pointers to give the Bearcats a 78-67 lead with 3:46 left in the game.
Minot State would only close the gap to 9 points but free-throws by the Bearcats helped seal their first win of the season 80-71.
Leading the way for SBU was Maris Colton who scored 24 points ten of which came from the free-throw line, Damian Prgomet added 17 points, and Nelson Quinn added 10 points.
As a team, SBU shot 44% from the field and shot 33 of 40 free throws for 82%.
The Bearcats also out-rebounded Minot State 42 to 33, leading the way in rebounding was Chris Rossow with 10, Connor Fuller added 6, and Maris Colton also added 5 rebounds.
SBU will be back in action Saturday, November 10 at 7 PM against East Central University.
