Bolivar, Mo. - The William Jewell Cardinals visited Southwest Baptist for a men's basketball game Tuesday evening. SBU fell to WJC 81-91, moving the Bearcats to 2-3 (0-0 MIAA) on the season.
The game started slow in the scoring area, each team having only 6 points after 5 minutes into the game. The Bearcats took their first lead of the game thanks to a layup by
Maris Colton with 13:12 remaining in the half. SBU went on a 7-2 run the next three minutes, creating their largest lead of the half on a 3-pointer from
Karim Mouliom. The Cardinals quickly took over and led the remainder of the half, leading 41-34 at halftime.
Going into the half, the scoring was spread throughout the Bearcats in the first half.
Chris Rossow and
Godfrey Rolle each had a team-high 7 points at halftime.Â
William Jewell opened the second half extending their lead to a difference of 9, but two 3-pointers from
Quinn Nelson and a
Damian Prgomet dunk brought the Bearcats within one. After a timeout by the visitors, the Cardinals went on an 11-2 run, creating a score of 59-50 with 13:30 remaining. A little less than three minutes later, the Bearcats cut the Cardinal lead down to 61-58 following a steal by
Chris Rossow that led to a
Godfrey Rolle layup. With 8:35 left in the game,
Quinn Nelson hit another three and
Karim Mouliom drained a layup, making the score 66-65 in favor of the visitors. The teams went back and forth, but SBU would never regain the lead. The Cardinals stretched their lead to 12 at one point, and finished with a final score of 91-81, William Jewell.Â
Four Bearcats finished with double digit points,
Chris Rossow had 16,
Godfrey Rolle had 16,
Quinn Nelson had 15 going 5-7 from three, and
Karim Mouliom had 10 along with 14 rebounds to give him a double-double. Along with his double-double, Mouliom also collected 3 blocks and 3 assists. Damiam Prgomet was one point shy of double digits, scoring 9 and hauling in 7 rebounds.
The Bearcats open MIAA Conference play in their next game, taking on UCM in Bolivar on Thursday, November 29th at 7:30 PM.Â
