St. Louis, Mo. – The Women's Basketball Team played against the University of Missouri St. Louis Monday evening. The Tritons defeated the Bearcats on a buzzer beater, 67-69. The Bearcats are now 2-3 (0-0 MIAA) on the season.
UMSL scored first and maintained the lead throughout the whole first quarter, leading 16-12. The Bearcats hung in with the Tritons, tying the game 25-25 with 5:39 left in the 2
nd quarter, and took the lead with 4:17 left thanks to a jumper from
Bailey Rezabek. After UMSL regained the lead, SBU went into halftime leading 34-33 after a steal by
Bailey Rezabek that led to a buzzer beating
Brylee Graddy jumper.
The teams went back and forth in the third, exchanging leads 5 times. The Tritons maintained the lead going into the final quarter, 46-47. The game remained neck and neck until the very last second. With 1:34 left, UMSL led by four. Layups by
Morgan Henderson and
Zahria White erased that lead, tying it up at 67. The home team called a timeout with 23 seconds remaining, drawing up a final play. The Tritons scored a jumper as time expired, giving them a 69-67 win.
Madison Strong led the Bearcats in points, finishing with 18.
Morgan Henderson scored another double-double, her third of the year, collecting 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists.
The Bearcats will open their conference play against Central Missouri on Thursday, November 29
th at 5:30 PM in Bolivar.
