Springfield, Mo. – The Bearcats took on area-rival Drury Tuesday night. The Panthers defeated the Bearcats 92-81, giving SBU a 1-2 (0-0 MIAA) record for the 2019 season.
Southwest Baptist trailed a majority of the first quarter, but tied the score at 21 thanks to a jumper by
Morgan Henderson and took the lead 22-21 with a free throw from Regan Tibbitts.
The second quarter had a little back and forth, with the Bearcats holding the lead the last 5:33 of the period. Going into halftime, SBU led 40-38.
Drury took the lead in the third a little over two minutes into the third quarter and kept it the remainder of the period. The Panthers took a 67-62 lead going into the fourth quarter.
After extending their lead to an 11-point deficit,
Morgan Henderson kept the Bearcats alive thanks to her work driving the ball to the basket. Unable to overcome the deficit, the Bearcats fell 92-81 to the Panthers.
Morgan Henderson collected another double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and was 4 assists shy of a triple double.
Laura Vierkant and
Bailey Rezabek were the other Bearcats who scored in the double digits, Vierkant with 15, Rezabek with 11.
As a team, SBU shot 27-56 from the field, 5-13 from 3-pt range.
The Bearcats take on Kansas Christian College on Thursday, November 15
th in Bolivar at 5:30 PM.
