Bolivar, MO - Morgan Henderson totaled 11 rebounds to go with 21 points as the Bearcats beat Ouachita Baptist 89-75, with the win the Bearcats record is 1-1.
The first quarter was back and forth as the Bearcats and the Tigers matched each other shot for shot, but SBU was able to get some shots late in the first to take a 28-23 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter saw the Bearcats push their lead to 10 with 5:30 left in the second quarter, but Ouachita was able to cut the Bearcats lead down to 3 as the teams headed to the locker rooms with SBU leading 47-44.
At halftime, Laura Vierkant scored 11 of her 17 points and Morgan Henderson scored 10 of her 21 points, as the Bearcats were shooting 41% from the field in the first half.
The third quarter opened up with more back and forth action but the Tigers were able to score a few more times than the Bearcats did which gave the Tigers a 62-58 lead going into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Bearcats offense could not seem to miss as they tallied 31 points in the final quarter. In the fourth SBU hit 12 of 18 shots, and hit 5 of 8 threes two of which happened in the final two minutes which helped give the Bearcats a double-digit lead late in the game.
Some late baskets from Ouachita Baptist reduced the Bearcat lead but the Tigers never got back within single digits as SBU won 89-75.
SBU had five players that scored double digits led by Morgan Henderson with 21 points, Laura Vierkant with 17, RayShee Smith had 13, Bailey Rezabek with 15, and Zahria White added 10 points.
As a team the Bearcats shot 42% from the field and 32% from three, the Bearcats also forced 18 turnovers and totaled 19 assists in the game.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Tuesday, November 13 at 5:45 PM as they take on the Drury Panthers in the annual Highway 13 Catfight, this game will be held at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
