Emporia, Kan. – The Women's Soccer Team was on the road at Emporia State Sunday afternoon. The Hornets took the match by a score of 1-0, bringing SBU's record to 0-10-2 (0-4-1 MIAA).
 
Emporia came out hot, taking a couple shots early into the game, but the first was high and Ashlyn Gibbs made the save on the other. At 8:06, Raquel Rodriguez put a shot on goal, but the Hornet goalie made the save. ESU followed with several shots of their own, but none were on goal. The Hornets continued to apply pressure with more shots, but they couldn't find the back of the net before halftime. Raquel Rodriguez got another shot on goal just before the half ended, but ESU made the save. The score was knotted at 0-0 going into halftime.
 
Just over a minute into the first half, Maya Cofield booted one at the ESU goal, but the save was made. A few minutes later, Raegan Edwards made a shot attempt that landed wide. At 52:26, Ashlyn Gibbs made a save on an ESU shot on goal, keeping the score tied at zero. Laura Manuel put a shot on goal at the 53 minute mark, unable to find the back of the net. Ten minutes later, Sheena Nichol got a good look at the ESU goal, but the Hornet goalie kept it out of the net. Sheena Nichol and Raegan Edwards continued to apply pressure with shots on goal, both resulting in saves. With just nine minutes remaining in the game, ESU netted a shot, giving them a 1-0 lead. SBU would not be able to score before the end of the game, finishing 1-0 in favor of the Hornets.
Lauren Hudak and Raquel Rodriguez each finished with 2 shots on goal. Other Bearcats getting shots on goal include Raegan Edwards, Maya Cofield, Laura Manuel, and Sheena Nichol. Ashlyn Gibbs made 5 saves on the day, allowing only one goal in the loss.
 
The Bearcats play at home in their next contest, taking on Missouri Western on October 12 at 4 PM.
