Topeka, Kan. - The Women's Soccer Team traveled to Topeka, KS Friday evening to play the Washburn Ichabods. After a hard fought match, the teams ended in a 2-2 tie. SBU moves to 0-9-2 (0-3-1 MIAA) on the season.
Lauren Hudak got things going for the Bearcats, getting a shot off that fell wide. Not much action happened after that until the 10 minute mark, when Washburn scored a goal to put them up 1-0. Another quiet nine minutes passed until the Ichabods scored their second goal of the night at 19:39. Around the 28 minute mark, the Bearcats got three shots off from
Raegan Edwards,
Maya Cofield, and
Raquel Rodriguez. The first two were blocked, and the third was high.
Raegan Edwards followed with a shot on goal about a minute later, but the Washburn goalie made the save.
Sheena Nichol made a few shot attempts right before the half ended, but none found the back of the net.
The first 15 minutes of the second half were pretty quiet. At the 63:57 mark,
Laura Manuel put a shot on goal, but it was saved. Five minutes later,
Sheena Nichol put a shot on goal as well, however, Washburn made the save. At 74:27
Raquel Rodriguez cut the Ichabod lead in half with an unassisted goal. With only 53 seconds left in the game, the Bearcats tied it up with a goal from
Laura Manuel.
The Bearcats had several good looks in the first overtime with shots from
Raquel Rodriguez,
Lauren Hudak, and
Kylee Ryan, but none resulted in a goal. Neither team would score in the first overtime, leading to a second over time.
Sheena Nichol managed to get a shot on goal, but Washburn made the save. Neither team would score again, ending in a 2-2 tie.
Southwest Baptist continues their road trip with a game Sunday at 2 PM against Emporia State.
