Bolivar, Mo. – The University of Indianapolis Greyhounds visited Bolivar Saturday afternoon for a GLVC football matchup with SBU. Indianapolis defeated Southwest Baptist by a score of 48-14. The Bearcats fall to 0-8 (0-6 GLVC) on the season.
Indianapolis received the ball to begin the game. Beginning with the ball on their own 23 yard line, the Greyhounds drove the length of the field and scored a touchdown, but missed the extra point, creating a 6-0 Indy lead early into the game. The Bearcats began their first drive on the SBU 25 after a touchback.
Eric Knight had consecutive rushes for 13 and 8 yards, but the drive stalled after that, forcing a punt. On Indy's second drive of the game the Bearcats held them to a 3
rd and 2 from the visitor 24, but a 10 yard connection kept their drive alive. A long touchdown pass came on the next play, giving the Greyhounds a 13-0 lead. After an SBU three-and-out, the Bearcat defense held strong, forcing Indianapolis to punt after 2 incomplete passes and a stop from
Kevin Momah. Starting on their own 32, SBU started strong with back to back completions from
Bryse Salik to
Matt Lechuga for gains of 12 yards and 9 yards. The Bearcats couldn't move forward from there, forcing a punt.
Indy's drive led into the second quarter, where they would score a touchdown on a 1 yard rush after driving the field, extending their lead to 20-0. The Greyhounds scored another touchdown following an SBU three-and-out, 27-0 Indianapolis. On a 3
rd and 8 for SBU midway through the second quarter, Salik kept the drive alive with his legs, rushing for a gain of 20 yards.
Eric Knight followed with consecutive rushes of 7 and 3 yards to create another first down. Three incomplete passes forced the Bearcats to punt, ending their drive at midfield. With the ball on their own 39,
Aaron Harris forced a fumble, recovered by
Coleton Smith, giving the Bearcats excellent field position.
Bryse Salik connected with
Chance Deitz for 21 yards, setting SBU up on the visitor 21 yard line. A 4
th and 7 led SBU to attempt a field goal, but the result would fall wide left, keeping the score at 27-0. With just 2:25 remaining in the half, the Greyhounds connected on a pass play good for 75 yards, followed by a 3 yard touchdown rush. Indianapolis would have the lead 34-0 going into halftime.
Southwest Baptist began with the ball to start the second half, driving the length of the field. The drive was capped off with a 10 yard touchdown reception from Salik to
Jarrett Massie, 34-7 UIndy. Highlights of the drive include a 12 yard connection from Salik to
Connor Ratcliff, and multiple double digit yard runs from
Eric Knight. On the next Greyhound drive, Indy drove all the way down to the SBU 15, but
Tevin Hall made an interception in the end zone. The Bearcats couldn't score off of the turnover, forcing a punt. Indianapolis would score again before the end of the third quarter, giving them a 41-7 lead.
SBU maintained possession going into the fourth quarter and scored their second touchdown of the afternoon on an
Eric Knight 5 yard rush. On the drive, SBU had a 3
rd and 7 from the visitor 42 and converted on a huge 28 yard completion from Salik to
Matt Lechuga. Indy would score once more before the end of the game, creating a final score of 48-14.
Bryse Salik had a final line of 15 of 32 for 139 yards and 1 touchdown.
Eric Knight rushed 28 times for 139 yards and a touchdown.
Matt Lechuga led the receptions column for the Bearcats, hauling in 5 receptions for 61 yards. On the defensive side of the ball,
Josh Palacios,
Connor Hicks, and
Blake Harris each collected 8 total tackles.
The Bearcats wrap up their home schedule next week, hosting Central Washington at 1 PM.
