Box Score Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU Women's Soccer Team faced Fort Hays State in their last home game of the 2018 season. FHSU defeated SBU in overtime by a score of 2-1. The Bearcats move to 1-13-2 (1-7-1 MIAA) on the year.
FHSU took the first shots of the afternoon. The first was fired to the right side, bouncing off the post. A second shot was fired off the rebound, but it went over the crossbar. Following a corner kick, the Tigers put a header on goal, but
Ashlyn Gibbs was there to make the save. Around 15 minutes in the game, Gibbs made another save after an FHSU shot on goal. The Tigers scored the first goal of the game at the 23:34 mark, giving them a 1-0 lead. After an FHSU foul,
Raegan Edwards took a free kick from the left side that landed just above the goal. With 10 minutes remaining in the half,
Lauren Hudak fired a shot on goal, but the Tiger goalie made the stop. The half came to an end without the score changing, 1-0 FHSU.
The Bearcats brought the pressure to begin the second half. Following a corner kick,
Raegan Edwards netted SBU's first goal on a pass from
Raquel Rodriguez, bringing the score to a 1-1 tie. FHSU got a shot on goal in the 52
nd minute, but Gibbs made the save.
Toni Paterno put a shot on the FHSU goal at the 63:13 mark, but couldn't find the back of the net.
Laura Manuel followed just a few minutes later with a shot of her own, but the score wouldn't change. Shortly after,
Raquel Rodriguez fired a shot that fell wide, but was very close to putting the Bearcats up by a score. The SBU defense kept FHSU out of the net on a shot with 5 minutes remaining. Time would expire before either team could score again, forcing overtime. A little over 3 minutes into overtime, FHSU scored a goal, winning the game 2-1.
The Women's Soccer Team will play again on October 26 at 6 PM, traveling to Missouri Southern for an MIAA competition.
