Bolivar, Mo. - The Women's Soccer Team beat MIAA opponent Nebraska-Kearney by a score of 4-0 Friday evening. The win improves SBU's record to 1-12-2 (1-6-1 MIAA) on the year.
Lauren Hudak put the first shot on goal for both teams in the 15th minute of play. The Loper goalie made the stop, keeping the score even at zero. A little over six minutes later, SBU broke the scoreless tie.
Laura Carpenter booted one past the goalie on a pass from
Abby Berg, giving the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. At the 29:34 mark, UNK attempted to even the score with a shot on goal, but
Ashlyn Gibbs was there to make the save. The Bearcats scored again, this goal at the 35 minute mark, thanks to a
Maya Cofield pass to
Raegan Edwards. After a wide shot from
Raquel Rodriguez, SBU netted a third goal in the first half. The third goal came at 41:31, another from
Raegan Edwards with an assist from
Sheena Nichol. The half would end in a 3-0 favor toward SBU.
Only a minute and 41 seconds into the second half,
Laura Carpenter scored her second of the game, giving SBU a 4-0 lead. Kearney brought the heat, firing shot after shot at the SBU goal, but the SBU defense and
Ashlyn Gibbs kept the Lopers from breaking their drought. Neither team would score again, resulting in a 4-0 Bearcat victory.
Laura Carpenter had two shots on goal and two goals,
Raegan Edwards had three shots, two on goal, and two goals.
Ashlyn Gibbs was credited with a shutout, collecting 5 saves on the night.
The Bearcats play their final home game on Sunday, October 21 at 2 PM, taking on FHSU. This game will be senior night for the Bearcats.
