Southwest Baptist Looks to End Conference Skid Saturday Versus Fort Hays State

Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University Bearcats (8-5, 0-4 MIAA) continue their home swing Saturday afternoon when they host Fort Hays State (11-3, 2-3 MIAA). 

Previewing the Bearcats
The Bearcats hold a 8-5 (0-4 MIAA) record on the season. They dropped their last game against Nebraska Kearney at home by a final score of 76-67. Over their thirteen games, the Bearcats boast the third highest points per game in the conference with 78.6 ppg and the highest free throw percentage in the conference of 82.3%. Megan Rosenbohm and Caylee Richardson make the Bearcats go. Rosenbohm is the 8th best scorer in the NCAA and leading scorer in the MIAA with 21.2 points per game. She also collects 5.2 rebounds per game, 3.8 assists per game, a conference leading 2.6 steals per game, and makes 90.6% of her free throws. Caylee Richardson averages a near double double with 15.4 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game on 60.3% shooting from the field and 90.0% at the line. 

Previewing the Tigers
Fort Hays enters the matchup with a record of 11-3 (2-3 MIAA). The Tigers are coming off 71-51 defeat at the hands of Central Missouri. The Tigers have four players that consistently score in the double digits. Tatyana Legette is the team leading scorer and rebounder with 13.3 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per game. Kacey Kennett scores 13.0 per game while Taylor Rolfs and Carly Heim average 10.3 points per game and 10.2 points per game respectively. The Tigers score 73.3 points a game on 43.4% shooting and limit their opponents to just 53.6 points and 34.6% shooting. 

The Coaches
SBU head coach Kelsey Keizer is in her fourth season on the Bearcat bench after leading SBU back to the MIAA Tournament in Kansas City for the first time in three years. Coach Keizer led the Bearcats to back-to-back winning seasons (16-14, 7-12 MIAA last year) in 2015-16 and 2016-17. A feat that had not been done since the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. Coach Keizer holds a career coaching record of 51-49 and a 22-41 mark in the MIAA.

Tony Hobson is in his 10th season as head coach of the Fort Hays State women's basketball program. He is in the midst of his 26th year overall with a career record of 592-191 (.756). In his previous nine seasons at Fort Hays, Hobson has a record of 179-85.

Across 19 career matchups, Fort Hays has captured 12 wins while Southwest Baptist has grabbed seven. These two teams last played in February 2017 with Fort Hays State defeating Southwest Baptist, 74-48.
