Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist (8-5, 2-2 MIAA) stays home to welcome in MIAA opponent, Fort Hays State (10-4, 3-2 MIAA), Saturday afternoon in Bolivar.
Previewing the Bearcats
The Bearcats sport a 8-5 (2-2 MIAA) record in the 2017-18 season. Their last time out behind a 23 point effort from Logan Hovey and 22 point game from Marlon Alcindor, Southwest Baptist defeated Nebraska Kearney to a final tune of 92-87. SBU is paced by senior forward Logan Hovey who averages a team high 20.1 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game. Alcindor and Cartier Dean average double figure scoring with 12.8 points per game and 10.5 points per game, respectively. Damian Prgomet is the second leading rebounder on the team with 5.5 rebounds per game. As a team, the Bearcats are scoring 82.9 points per game, which is second best in the MIAA conference, and shoot a conference leading 45.8% from behind the arc while only giving up 72.8 points per game on 40.6% shooting from opponents. The 40.6 field goal percentage defense ranks third in the MIAA.
Previewing the Tigers
Fort Hays comes into the game with a 10-4 record (3-2 MIAA). On Thursday, Fort Hays was on the road against Central Missouri and lost to the Mules, 81-66. The two starting forwards for the Tigers, Hadley Gillum and Brady Werth, lead them in both scoring and rebounding. Gillum leads the team with 17.3 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game. Werth averages 11.0 points per game and pulls down 4.9 rebounds per game. Guard Kyler Kinnamon leads the team in assists with 4.8 per game, which also ranks third in the MIAA. Fort Hays scores 82.8 points per game while allowing 72.7. They shoot 77% as a team at the line and collect an MIAA leading 8.6 steals per game.

Clark Sheehy is in his fourth season on the SBU bench, holding a 44-55 (21-43 MIAA) record while at SBU. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 225-156 across twelve seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball. Over their last eight games, Sheehy has guided the Bearcats to a 7-2 record after starting 1-3.
Mark Johnson enters his 17th season as head coach of the Fort Hays State University. He is the all-time coaching wins leader in FHSU history with a career record of 322-149 in 16 seasons. Johnson has led the Tigers to seven NCAA Tournament appearances.
