Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - A late 15-2 run from Nebraska Kearney over the last three minutes of game action ultimately doomed Southwest Baptist as they fell to the Lopers, 76-67, Thursday night. The loss drops SBU to 8-5 (0-4 MIAA) on the season while UNK improves their record to 11-2 (3-2 MIAA).
Mckenzie Brown of Nebraska Kearney had the game high in points and rebounds with 24 and 12, respectively. For the Bearcats, Megan Rosenbohm stuffed the stat sheet, tying the team high in points with 14, collecting six six rebounds, and passing for a game high six assists. Caylee Richardson tied Rosenbohm's mark with 14 points of her own and gathered in a team high seven rebounds. Morgan Henderson was the other individual who entered double digit scoring territory with 12 points. The Bearcats shot 38.1% from the floor, 22.1% from three, and 82.4% at the stripe. They managed to turn Kearney over 19 times while only giving it away 11 times themselves.Â
The first quarter was a sluggish start for both teams but Gokce Cetin came in late in the first quarter to give SBU a spark with five quick points to close the quarter and give SBU a 14-10 advantage. The second quarter both teams stayed neck and neck. The Bearcats got six straight points from Richardson from 4:38 to 2:45 mark that helped them take a 31-30 lead. UNK would score the last five points of the quarter though to provide themselves a 35-31 cushion going into the half. Â
In the first five minutes of the third quarter, the Lopers used an 11-4 run to open their lead to double digits at 46-35. Behind scoring from a host of Bearcats, SBU used a 15-7 spurt to trim the UNK lead to just 53-50 going into the fourth quarter. With 5:46 remaining in the game, SBU took the lead, 60-59, on a Morgan Henderson three point play. SBU expanded their margin to 65-61 on two Rosenbohm free throws. After the Rosenbohm free throws is when Nebraska Kearney used their closing run to defeat Southwest Baptist. Â
Southwest Baptist returns to the floor Saturday when they welcome in another MIAA opponent. They will take on the Fort Hays State Tiger with the tipoff set for 1:30 PM from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.Â
