Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist (7-5, 1-2 MIAA) stays home to welcome in MIAA opponent, Nebraska Kearney (6-7, 2-2 MIAA), Thursday night in Bolivar.
Previewing the Bearcats
The Bearcats sport a 7-5 (1-2 MIAA) record in the 2017-18 season. Their last time out behind a career high 27 points from Kai Woodfall, the Bearcats cruised to a 93-61 victory over Ozark Christian SBU is paced by senior forward Logan Hovey who averages a team high 19.8 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game. Marlon Alcindor and Cartier average double figure scoring with 12.1 points per game and 10.5 points per game, respectively. Damian Prgomet is the second leading rebounder on the team with 5.8 rebounds per game. As a team, the Bearcats are scoring 82.2 points per game, which is fourth best in the MIAA conference, and shooting a conference leading 45.5% from behind the arc while only giving up 71.6 points per game on 40.3% shooting from opponents.Â
Previewing the Lopers
Nebraska Kearney comes into the game with a 6-7 record (2-2 MIAA). The Lopers have not played since December 19th when they dominated Hastings College to a final mark of 93-64. The Lopers feature the second leading scorer and third leading rebounder in the conference, Trey Lansman, who averages 20.8 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game. The Lopers have three others who average double digit scoring. Yashua Trent (14.8 ppg), Lane Rohrich (13.2 ppg), and Ty Danielson (11.2 ppg) contribute to an offense that averages 79.4 points per game. The Loper defense gives up 78.7 points per game on 46.2% shooting.
The Coaches
SBU head coach
Clark Sheehy is in his fourth season on the SBU bench, holding a 43-55 (20-43 MIAA) record while at SBU. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 224-156 across twelve seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball. Over their last eight games, Sheehy has guided the Bearcats to a 6-2 record after starting 1-3.
Kevin Lofton is in his third season as head coach and in the midst of his 23rd season as a member of the Lopers coaching staff. In his two seasons as head coach, Lofton has accumulated a record of 41-22 and an NCAA tournament berth in 2016.

The series between the Lopers and the Bearcats is all knotted up a 5 games a piece. SBU took home the victory in their last matchup that came in February by a final score of 66-62.
