Topeka, Kan. - Outside of an early 2-0 deficit, the top team in the MIAA, the Washburn Ichabods, lead 39 of the game's 40 minutes on their way to securing an 89-60 over Southwest Baptist. The loss makes the Bearcats record now 10-9 (4-6 MIAA) while Washburn goes to 15-4 (9-1 MIAA).
Logan Hovey had the high in points and rebounds for SBU with 13 points on 42.9% (6-14) from the field and four rebounds. Karim Mouliom came off the bench and added 11 points, and Damian Prgomet chipped in 10 points and three blocks from his starting role. Chris Rossow and Darnell Latham Jr. each had three assists in the game as well. For the night, the Bearcats converted 42.9% (21-49) of their field goals, 18.2% (2-11) of their bombs from deep, and 64.0% (14-25) at the line.
The first half began with Washburn scoring 10 of the game's first 12 points. SBU responded with back to back buckets from Theo Oghide and Hovey to make the score the 10-6. By the 9:28 mark though, the Ichabods had gained a 22-12 advantage. SBU cut the lead under double digits immediately on a free throw from Latham Jr. However, that's as close as the Bearcats would come the rest of the half as Washburn outscored SBU 24-16 over the last nine minutes.
The second half the Ichabods picked up right where they left off. Four minutes into the half the Ichabods had 25 point lead over SBU. SBU would cut that lead to 19 a couple times. The last time being a layup from Kai Woodfall to make the score 68-49 with 7:15 left. The Bearcats did shoot well in the second half as they made half of their field goal attempts. Unfortunately, Washburn still outscored them 43-32 in the half to claim the 89-60 win.
The Bearcats take the court again on Sunday, January 28th against the Emporia State Hornets. Game time is slated for 3:30 PM in Emporia, Kansas.
