Bolivar, Mo. - It was a tale of two halves Thursday night in Bolivar between Lindenwood and Southwest Bapitst. In the first half, SBU outplayed Lindenwood and took a eight point lead, 31-23, into the locker room. Unfortunately, in the second half, the Lions shot 52.0% and outscored the Bearcats 46-27 to come away with a 69-58 win. The loss drops SBU's recored to 10-7 (4-4 MIAA) and elevates Lindenwood's to 12-6 (4-5 MIAA).
Logan Hovey lead the SBU attack with 15 points and eight rebounds and converted 5 of his 12 field goal attempts. Marlon Alcindor had 12 points and Damian Prgomet chipped in 11 points on 83% (5-6) shooting from the field. The Bearcats were cold all night, racking up a 32.1% (18-56) on field goals and 21.1% (4-19) on triples. A bright spot was their shooting at the line as they made 81.8% (18-22) of those attempts. Southwest Baptist did win the rebounding battle, 38 to 33, and managed to turn Lindenwood over 13 times.
With 7:16 to go in the first half, the game was tied at 20. Behind balanced scoring, the Bearcats closed the half on an 11-3 run to take their eight point lead at halftime. In the second half, after Lindenwood trimmed their deficit to just two points, 40-38, with 13:40 left, the two teams played tight for the next nine minutes of game action. The two teams exchanged leads three times with the biggest lead on either side being six points held by SBU. Alcindor made two free throws to give SBU a 51-50 lead but that was the last advantage SBU would have. The final five minutes Lindenwood closed the game with a 16-6 spurt that carried them to their 69-58 victory over the Bearcats.
SBU has a quick day off before taking the floor again to face Lincoln Saturday afternoon on Alumni Day in Bolivar. Tipoff for the game is scheduled for 3:30 PM at the Meyer Sports Center.
