Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist (10-6, 2-5 MIAA) returns home for a conference pair of games starting with Lindenwood, (10-7, 2-6 MIAA).
Previewing the Bearcats
The Bearcats hold a 10-6 (2-5 MIAA) record on the season. They recently won a thriller on the road against Missouri Western by a final score of 86-82 after two overtimes. Over their 16 games, the Bearcats boast the third highest points per game in the conference with 77.8 ppg and the highest free throw percentage in the conference of 83.4%. Megan Rosenbohm and Caylee Richardson make the Bearcats go. Rosenbohm is the 17th best scorer in the NCAA and leading scorer in the MIAA with 20.1 points per game. She also collects 5.5 rebounds per game, 3.8 assists per game, a conference leading 2.6 steals per game, and makes 91.7% of her free throws. Caylee Richardson averages a near double double with 16.3 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game on 60.5% shooting from the field and 85.9% at the line.
Previewing the Lions
Lindenwood enters the matchup with a record of 10-7 (2-6 MIAA). The Lions are coming off a 80-68 defeat at the hands of Pittsburg State. Kallie Bildner didn't play the past two games but she is averaging 19.7 points per game on 56.5% shooting from the field and 76.9% at the line. Gabby Walker chips in 13.4 points per game and 1.2 assists per game while Lindsay Medlen adds 9.2 points per game and 81.6% shooting at the line. As a team, Lindenwood scores 80.6 points per game on 46.8% shooting from the floor. They only let up 61.4 points per contest and carry a 11.9 advantage on the boards.Â
The Coaches
SBU head coach
Kelsey Keizer is in her fourth season on the Bearcat bench after leading SBU back to the MIAA Tournament in Kansas City for the first time in three years. Coach Keizer led the Bearcats to back-to-back winning seasons (16-14, 7-12 MIAA last year) in 2015-16 and 2016-17. A feat that had not been done since the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. Coach Keizer holds a career coaching record of 53-50 and a 24-42 mark in the MIAA.
Tony Francis is entering his eighth season as the head coach of the Lindenwood women's basketball program in 2017-18. Francis turned the women's basketball program around in his first season, and then led the program through its transition to the NCAA Division II level. He enters the 2017-18 season with a head coaching record of 89-109.Â
All-Time Series
In ten matchups between the two schools, SBU holds the series lead, 6-4. The two squads played each other last January with Lindenwood claiming a narrow victory, 70-68.Â
