Bearcats Return Home to Face the Lions

Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist (10-6, 4-3 MIAA) returns home for a conference pair of games, starting with Lindenwood (11-6, 3-5 MIAA), Thursday night.

Previewing the Bearcats
The Bearcats sport a 10-6 (4-3 MIAA) record in the 2017-18 season. SBU was victorious on Monday night when defeated Missouri Western on the road, 68-56. SBU is paced by senior forward Logan Hovey who averages a team high 19.3 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game. Marlon Alcindor averages double figure scoring with 11.9 points per game and Cartier Dean chips in 9.8 points per game. Chris Rossow leads the team in the assists category with 3.9 a game. As a team, the Bearcats are scoring 79.1 points per game, which is seventh best in the MIAA conference, and shoot a conference leading and fourth best in the NCAA 43.9% from behind the arc while giving up 71.8 points per game on 40.8% shooting from opponents. The 40.8 field goal percentage defense ranks third in the MIAA and 26th in the country.

Previewing the Lions
Lindenwood comes into the game with a 11-6 record (3-5 MIAA) and on a three game losing skid. This past Saturday, Lindenwood hosted Pittsburg State and lost to the Gorillas, 85-65. The Lions attack features three different players, Brad Newman, Chandler Diekvoss, and Jackson Price that score double digits. Newman leads the charge with 15.5 points per game. Diekvoss is not far behind with 15.3 points per game while also leading the team in rebounds with 6.8 per game. Price rounds out the three Lions with 12.0 points per game. Lindenwood scores 77.9 points per game on 46.9% shooting as a team. They allow 71.6 points per game with the fourth worst field goal percentage defense of 45.9% in the conference.

The Coaches
SBU head coach Clark Sheehy is in his fourth season on the SBU bench, holding a 46-56 (23-44 MIAA) record while at SBU. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 227-157 across twelve seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball. In their last twelve games, the Bearcats have played exceptionally and recorded a 9-3 record in those twelve games.

Lance Randall is in his third year at Lindenwood during the 2017-18 men's basketball season. At Lindenwood, he he has posted a record of 48-32. Overall, Randall is in his tenth season as a collegiate head coach, and he has a career record of 158-105 in his first nine years.

All-Time Series
Lindenwood has the slight edge in the all-time series between the two schools, 5-4. In the last time these two teams met in 2017, Southwest Baptist routed the Lions in St. Charles. The final score was 81-54.
