1/15/2018 10:33:00 PM

Box Score
St. Joseph, Mo. - Southwest Baptist knocked 11 of their 21 triples down, good for 52.4%, on their way to a 68-56 road defeat of MIAA foe, Missouri Western. The Bearcats improve their mark to 10-6 (4-3 MIAA) while the Griffons fall to 3-12 (1-7 MIAA).

Logan Hovey recorded a double double in the win with 22 points and 12 rebounds on 54.5% (6-11) shooting and a perfect 3 of 3 from deep. Chris Rossow added 18 points and five assists in the winning effort. Marlon Alcindor was the only other Bearcat that eclipsed double figures with 11 points. In addition to making 11 threes, SBU shot 41.7% (20-48) on field goals and 63.0% (17-27) on free throws. Southwest Baptist controlled the glass with a 38 to 29 rebounding advantage. Their defense was stellar as they held the Griffons to just 21.4% (3-14) shooting from three for the game.

Chris Rossow got things started out of the gate for the Bearcats by knocking down two threes that helped give SBU a 10-5 advantage. Missouri Western closed that deficit through a 6-0 spurt that gave them a 11-10 advantage midway through the half. Each team jockeyed back and forth for the lead, causing six lead changes the rest of the half. A Cartier Dean three at the 2:45 mark handed SBU a 22-21 lead they would never relinquish. On a tipin by Hovey, they stretched the margin to 28-23 at the half.

To begin the second half, the Griffons pulled within two points, 31-29. A nice, responsive 10-2 run from the Bearcats pushed their advantage out to 41-31 with 16:29 remaining in the game. SBU continued its push to 51-36 on a jumper from Rossow. Missouri Western made it a seven point game, 55-48, on a three with about four minutes left. However, the Griffons would get no closer as some more baskets from Rossow and Hovey extinguished the Griffons to a final tune of 68-56.

SBU will now take the floor once again on Thursday night to host Lindenwood University for another MIAA conference matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar, Missouri.
