Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's soccer team played their strongest game of the season, resulting in a 2-0 victory over visiting Upper Iowa. The Peacocks had been receiving votes in the national poll coming into the game against the Bearcats.
The game proved to be a defensive battle from the start, as only 11 total shots were taken in the first half, as both teams headed into the locker room tied 0-0. The Bearcats broke the scoreless game in the 71st minute when
Jaydon Charles fed the ball to
Alberto Rodriguez who placed the ball into the left side of the net to give SBU a 1-0 lead. The Bearcats added to their lead less than three minutes later when
Jose Marrufo headed in a shot past the keeper to extend the Bearcat lead to 2-0. The two goals were more than enough for the SBU defense and keeper as they secured the 2-0 victory. In goal
Matt Garza collected his first career shutout, picking up three saves in the victory.
SBU will be back in action on Sunday, October 1 when they take on nationally recognized Lindenwood. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. from Plaster Stadium in Bolivar.
