Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University volleyball team picked up a big 3-2 victory over Pittsburg State on Friday evening in each school's MIAA opener.
The first two sets on the evening went to extra points with Pitt taking set one 26-24 and SBU taking set two 27-25. The Gorillas responded and took set three 25-16 before SBU closed out the victory with a 25-12 set four and 15-12 set five.
Emily Thompson led the Bearcats with a team high 11 kills, while
Mikhaela Cochran chipped in 9 kills.
Brea Freeman handled a majority of the setting duties by picking up 28 assists, while
Bailey Baumann had a team high 16 digs followed by
Dana Neal's 14 digs and
Ashleigh DeWees added 10 digs.
The Bearcats quickly return to action on Saturday, September 23 when they host #10 Central Oklahoma. Play is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center.
