Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University football team will welcome Quincy on Saturday for SBU Homecoming. The Bearcats, who have won three straight homecoming games, defeated Quincy on Homecoming in 2015 56-33.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
Robert Clardy will begin his third season as the head coach on the Bearcat bench. Coach Clardy led the Bearcats to their first ever NCAA Playoff appearance, National Ranking, and Conference Championship during the 2016 season. Coach Clardy has produced six All-American's during his career, while seeing his athletes break numerous SBU, GLVC, and NCAA records.
Gary Bass is in his 1st season as the interim head coach at Quincy, and is in his 6th season overall with the program. Bass has served as the offensive line coach, offensive coordinator, assistant head coach, and recruiting coordinator in his time at Quincy.
Southwest Baptist leads the all-time series against Quincy 4-1. The Bearcats claimed a 37-20 victory at Quincy last season.
Scouting the Bearcats
Southwest Baptist comes into the game against Quincy 1-2 (0-1 GLVC) on the season after falling on the road to #15 Indianapolis 45-17. Offensively, the Bearcats are led in both passing and rushing by
TJ Edwards who averages 30.7 rushing yards per game and 229.7 passing yards per game, while
Kendrick Payne has pulled in a team high 17 receptions and averages 73.7 yards/game. Defensively,
Tyler Curts leads the Bearcats with 11.7 tackles/game and 5.5 total tackles for a loss, while
Brycen Gagnon,
Julian Shade, and
D'Angelo Tucker all have a team leading 1.5 sacks.
Scouting the Hawks
Quincy comes into the game against Southwest Baptist 2-1 (1-0 GLVC) after defeating Lincoln 7-3 last week. The Hawks are led offensively by Chris Harris who averages 108.0 rushing yards per game, while quarterback Andrew Rund averages 122.7 passing yards per game to go along with 42.0 rushing yards per game. Defensively Cody Leonard averages 11.7 tackles per game, including a GLVC leading 24 solo stops, while also producing a team high 5.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks.
