Arkadelphia, Ark. - The Southwest Baptist University men's soccer team fell in their opening match of the 2017 season 3-0 to Ouachita Baptist on Saturday.
"The boys played hard," head coach
Nick Pettit stated after the game. "I take the loss as a coach. We didn't prepare well enough against a team that finished chances. That falls on the coaching. We did well to find the ball and get shots. Just have to convert. Sad to see the ref's decision to give a red card. Both staffs agreed it wasn't, but you have to just play with that and we did well to still control the game and get shots. Possession was on, but OBU just finished the chances they had. Again it's us as coaches to now do better to get the team ready for a quick turn around on Tuesday at Truman State."
Ouachita Baptist scored in the 28th, 32nd, and 65th minute while SBU got off 13 shots in the loss.
SBU will return to action on Tuesday, September 5 when they travel to Kirksville, Missouri to take on Truman. Play is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
