Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's soccer team fell in a hard fought battle against Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Saturday morning 3-1. With the loss the Bearcats fall to 0-1 on the season.
Southwestern Oklahoma State opened up the scoring in the first period, scoring in the 28th minute of play, as the Bearcats went into the half trailing 1-0. In the second half the Bearcats knotted the score in the 70th minute. With the Bearcats threatening to score, forward
Raegan Edwards was fouled in the box which set up a penalty kick for
Brooke Herald. Herald converted, knocking the ball into the bottom right corner of the net, to tie the game at 1-1. However, SWOSU responded with a penalty kick of their own in the 74th minute and another goal in the 86th minute as the Bearcats would eventually fall 3-1. In goal
Ashlyn Gibbs had a strong performance collecting 8 saves in the loss.
The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, September 4 when they host Drury. Play is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. from the SBU Soccer Field in Bolivar.
