Volleyball Earns First Win of the Season at MIAA/GAC Crossover

Bethany, Okla. - The Southwest Baptist University volleyball team picked up their first victory of the 2017 season in the final day of competition at the MIAA/GAC Crossover. The Bearcats took down host Southern Nazarene 3-2 before falling 3-0 in the night cap against Northwestern Oklahoma State.

In SBU's 3-2 victory over Southern Nazarene, the Bearcats found themselves down 2-0 after falling in the first two sets 25-16 and 25-22. The Bearcats then posted quite a comeback, taking sets three and four 25-17 and 25-21 before winning a thrilling fifth set 17-15. Dana Neal and Katie Robinson both had a team high 15 kills in the victory, with Neal posting a double-double as she added 12 digs. Brea Freeman gave the Bearcats their second double-double on the day with a team leading 39 assists to go along with 12 digs. Bailey Baumann had a team high 22 digs, while Ashleigh DeWees added 15 digs.

In the second match of the day the Bearcats fell to Northwestern Oklahoma State 25-23, 25-21, and 25-20. Neal again produced another double-double with a team high 12 kills and a team high 12 digs. Baumann was also in double-figures with 11 digs while Freeman collected 33 assists in the loss.

The Bearcats will hit the road on Tuesday, September 19 when they travel to William Jewell for their final non-conference match before entering MIAA play. Play is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. from Liberty, Missouri.
