Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell in the final regular season contest of the year 15-4 to #12 Emporia State. With the loss the Bearcats end the regular season 30-19 (20-16 MIAA).
Emporia State took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Bearcats bounced back to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs in the inning,
Hunter Hisky drew a walk, followed by single from
Sean Murley.
Nelson Muniz then hit an RBI single to right field to tie the game at 1-1. After a scoreless second, the Bearcats took the lead in the bottom of the third. Hisky again drew a two-out walk, stole second, and came home on an RBI double from Murley to give SBU a 2-1 lead. ESU came back to tie the game in the following half inning, but SBU again re-took the lead in the fifth. With two outs in the inning, back-to-back singles from
Chance Wolfe and
Hunter Hisky put runners on the corners. Wolfe would steal home on a double steal as the Bearcats regained the lead at 3-2. However, ESU would put up 8 runs in the top of the sixth and would go on to claim the game 15-4.
The Bearcats will enter the MIAA Tournament as the #6 seed, playing #3 seed Lindenwood at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 11 on the campus of Missouri Southern in Joplin.
