Durant, Okla. - The Southwest Baptist University women's tennis team advanced with ease over Washburn in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Monday, 5-0. With the victory the Bearcats improve to 19-3 on the season.

Southwest Baptist received two early points in the match, as Washburn defaulted at no. 3 doubles and no. 6 singles. SBU wasted no time in pushing their lead to 4-0. Lucia Diaz and Klara Vickov picked up an 8-2 victory at no. 2 doubles, followed by an 8-2 victory at no. 1 doubles by Lara Soares and Lani Tuemmers.

Moving to singles play, SBU needed only one point to advance. Vickov continued her strong season at no. 4 doubles by winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, to close out the victory. Sarah Brown was nearly finished at no. 5 doubles, leading 6-0, 5-2, when the match was called.

The Bearcats will now await the winner of the Southeastern Oklahoma State and Augustana match to be played later today. The NCAA Central Reigon #2 Final will be played on Tuesday, May 2 at 1:00 p.m. from Durant, Oklahoma.
