Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University Baseball team tied the program record for wins in a season with a 10-7 victory over Nebraska-Kearney. Following the win over UNK the Bearcats improve to 29-15 (19-12 MIAA) on the season.
Caleb Sneed opened the game with a walk, advanced to second on a single by
Hunter Hisky and the bases were loaded following a
Chance Wolfe walk.
Andrew Meier hit a sacrifice fly to right field giving SBU a 1-0 lead headed to the bottom of the first inning. The Lopers responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. Sneed doubled to open the top of the third inning and Hisky drove him in with an RBI single to center field which tied the game at two. UNK scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-2 lead.
Jovany Urbieta and
Nelson Muniz hit back-to-back doubles putting runners at second and third with one out in the top of the fourth inning.
Clint Jack hit an RBI single to right cutting the UNK lead to 5-3.
Cody Massey followed with an RBI double making the score 5-4 UNK. After a wild pitch plated a run for SBU, Wolfe singled which capped a five run inning and SBU led 7-5. Both teams failed to score until the bottom of the sixth when UNK tied the game at seven. Massey singled opening up the ninth inning and
Sean Murley also singled putting runners at first and third. Hisky hit an RBI double down the left field line which broke the tie and put SBU 9-7. Wolfe singled scoring Hiksy, increasing the lead to 10-7. UNK failed to score in the bottom of the inning and SBU picked up the victory.
Jay Kaufman picked up the win for SBU.
On offense
Hunter Hisky,
Cody Massey, and
Nelson Muniz all had three hits. Hisky had three RBIs while
Chance Wolfe added two.
Brian Womack pitched seven innings for SBU.
Jay Kaufman pitched two innings in relief and picked up the win for the Bearcats.
SBU will return to action on Friday, April 28th when they host Nebraska-Kearney in an MIAA doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 11:00 am from Bolivar, Mo.
