Graves Breaks SBU Rbi Record; SBU Splits with Lindenwood

Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team split a pair of games with Lindenwood on Sunday afternoon. Following the series with Lindenwood SBU improves to 29-19 (13-11 MIAA) on the season.

In game one Lindenwood would open up the scoring in the first inning by scoring a pair of runs, the lions would add to their lead in the second inning going up 4-0. In the bottom of the fourth inning Megan Schellert would open the inning with a single, and Dana Graves would hit a two run homer  to center field to make the score 5-2. With the two RBIs Graves tied the SBU career RBI record with 98. LWU would add a run in the fifth inning and would win game one 5-2. 

In game two Catlin Evans would get a one out base hit in the bottom of the first inning and would move to second on a wild pitch. Schellert got an RBI single up the middle to give SBU a 1-0 lead. Claire Miller would keep the Lions off the scoreboard over the next two innings as SBU would lead 1-0 going to the bottom of the third inning. Schellert got a two out single then Stormy Christerson hit an RBI triple increasing the lead to 2-0. Lauren Strobel cranked a homerun to center field giving SBU a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth inning Schellert and Christerson hit back to back singles bringing Graves to the plate. Graves would collect an RBI single which would break the all time SBU RBI record with her 99th career RBI and give the Bearcats a 5-0 lead. Alexis Dock hit a leadoff double in the bottom of the sixth inning, and Evans brought her in with an RBI double. Miller would retire the Lions in the seventh to secure the victory. 

On the day Megan Schellert would collect four hits, while Stormy Christerson had three. Dana Graves had three RBIs in the series. Kacey Ayers-Evans and Claire Miller each tossed complete games. Miller picked up her sixth shutout of the year. 

SBU returns to action Monday, April 24th when they host Lincoln in an MIAA doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM from Bolivar, Mo.
