Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team fell in a pair of one run games to Williams Baptist on Monday afternoon. Following the series with Williams Baptist SBU falls to 28-18 (12-10 MIAA) on the season.
SBU would open the scoring in game one, as they would take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Jaidyn Mawhinney would reach on an error and would advance to thid with a sacrifice bunt and a groundout.
Stormy Christerson would hit a two out single to give the Bearcats the early lead.
Kacey Ayers-Evans would keep WBC off the board over the next three innings as SBU held their 1-0 lead going into the fifth inning. In the top of the fifth inning the Eagles would tie the game on an RBI groundout. The game remained tied and went into extra innings, in the eighth inning Williams Baptist pushed across a run and went on top 2-1. SBU would get a runner to third base in the bottom of the inning, but would lose the game 2-1.
Mawhinney opened up game two with a single to left field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Megan Schellet doubled to center field scoring Mawhinney an putting SBU on top 1-0. Christerson followed with an RBI single increasing the Bearcat lead to 2-0.
Hunter Middleton would make quick work of the Eagles in the second inning, and SBU would com u with a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the inning. Williams Baptist would score two runs in the third inning and the game would be tied 2-2. The game remain tied until the fifth inning when the Eagles would score a run and go up 3-2. SBU would threaten in the bottom of the sixth inning, but failed to score and would fall 3-2.
Stormy Christerson led the Bearcats collecting five hits and collected two RBI's on the day.
SBU returns to action on Friday, April 21st as they host Lindenwood in an MIAA doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 2:00 PM from Bolivar, Mo.
