Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University Softball team split a pair of MIAA conference games with Washburn on Saturday afternoon. Following the series with Washburn SBU is 26-18 (12-10 MIAA) on the season.

Kacey Ayers-Evans would highlight game one as she threw a complete game shutout in the 2-0 victory. Washburn would go in order in the top of the first inning, however Jaidyn Mawhinney would lead off with a base hit for SBU in the bottom half of the inning. After a sacrifice bunt, Megan Schellert singled up the middle driving in Mawhinney and putting SBU on top 1-0. Ayers-Evans would make quick work of the Ichabods over the next two innings leaving the score 1-0 SBU going to the bottom of the third inning. Mawhinney and Catlin Evans started the frame with back-to-back base hits putting runners on first and second with no outs, but the Bearcats would fail to bring in a run. Dana Graves smoked a line drive homerun to right center in the fourth inning increasing the SBU lead to 2-0. Ayers-Evans would keep Washburn off the board over the final three innings and would pick up her 14th win and sixth shutout of the season.

Claire Miller continued the strong pitching effort in game two, she retired WU quickly in the first inning. The Bearcats would load the bases in the bottom of the inning but would fail to bring in a run leaving the game scoreless. The game would remain a pitchers duel all the way through the seventh inning as neither team could push across a run. Washburn would pick up a run in the top of the eighth inning and would win 1-0. Claire Miller threw a complete game with six strikeouts for SBU.

The Bearcats will step out of MIAA play when they host Williams Baptist in a doubleheader on Monday, April 17th. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM from Bolivar, Mo.
